ABOUT THE ARTIST

Chuck Sears lives in Palos Verdes California and has studied art and painted for over thirty years. He has a formal education from Woodbury University and has also attended Otis/Parsons in Los Angeles. He has studied with and been critiqued by private instructors, including Ann Shields, a student of Richard Diebenkorn. Mr. Sears has exhibited and participated in a four person show at the Los Angeles County Museum of art in the emerging artist Sales/Rental Gallery. His art is essentially a media combination of digital and acrylic painting mounted on boxed edge canvas or board. His current “color bands” is an example of his exploration of geometric shapes and their spatial and color relationships. Mr. Sears also paints abstracted works including impressions of ancient Aztec designs and surreal images. He has a painterly style, which combined with his digital imagination, gives his work a fresh, spontaneous look. For more information please write Mr. Sears at chksrz@earthlink.net.

MEDIUM

Mr. Sears works in acrylic, oil, collage, oil pastel, pen and colored markers. He uses digital imaging to work out his preliminary design and color arrangement. He then transfers this original work to canvas or board. After sealing he paints, usually with acrylic, applying layers in a painterly technique. He often employs line as an important element of his work, using paint, colored markers, pen and pencil. Most of his canvases are of the “boxed edge” type. Those on paper and board are usually framed with a simple black frame, white matt, under Plexiglas.
